What age did you start your baby on the 1st age baby food? My son is almost (in a few days) 5 months old (I know its a little early but he eats so much formula, I thought I might try and see how he takes it, and maybe supplement a bottle or two with the baby food) and I've started giving it to him, and he was doing really well until I gave him carrots. I think that may have constipated him. So when did you start feeding your baby the 1st age baby foods, and what foods did they like or dislike, or had negative reactions to?

my baby is two months, he wanted to eat every hour or less, so his pediatrician told me to start to introduce him to cereal and 1st stage fruits, but just applesauce and pears.

At 4 months I started my daughter on a little rice cereal. That was a disaster. It constipated her. So at 5 months we started pureeing fresh fruits and steamed vegatables and slowly trying them out. So far we've tried bananas, spinach, mango, kiwi, apple, and pear, and none of them have given her a reaction. In fact, she loves all of them. We never use jarred foods, bt if you like, there's no harm in starting a little first foods now. Just do it few and far between. Not too much at a time.

back in '99 the rule was at four months start cereal and then at 6 months start 1st stage foods. I started with carrots also, because it was sweet….but of course, as a mom i wanted to try the "fun" stuff…so then came the bananas and applesauce….my alltime fav was blueberry buckle…she loved loved loved it! I would just stick with one food for a couple days and see how it sits with his little tummy. If he has a tummy ache or constipation..maybe try something else…good luck to you!

My son started solids 10 days shy of 6 months. We began him on avocados, after reading several articles from reputable professionals that cereal isn't at all necessary. My son loved the avocados! I make my own baby food and have since made bananas, winter squash, sweet potato, peas, mixed vegetables, and chicken for him. He seemed to like them all, although he would sometimes scrunch up his face at the different textures and initial first taste.

4 month: 1 tablespoon of cereal only at night. I did this for a week then tried, oatmeal for a week then barley. once she tried everything, I did 1 tablespoon of cereal in morning, too. once she did that for awhile, I started veggies at about 5.5 months only at night. once she got through all veggies, i started fruit in morning. she was on all food by 6.5 months.

I started my son when he was 5 months old too. He wanted more than 8oz of formula at each feeding and since they don't make bottles larger than 8 ozs I figured it was time, haha. We started with an evening feeding about 45 minutes prior to him going to sleep for the night, we would then give him 4oz just before bed. We slowly added more meals as time went on. He is now 7 months old and eats 3 meals a day. Our son likes all foods, but seemed to get a little rashy after eating: carrots, peas and pears. Our Ped. said to try those foods again at 9 months. Best of luck to you!
